A Water Supply System Built with an Eye on the
Future
As one of the largest recent
public works projects in the US, the Denver International Airport
was originally envisioned to be four times the size of Stapleton
Airport, and would be built in phases. While Stapleton handled
approximately 27 million passengers, the new airport was designed to
ultimately handle 110 million passengers each year. The water
system for the new airport required consideration of not only the
usage needs of the new airport facility, but also the future needs
of the surrounding area. Built in a large (43 square miles)
undeveloped area, the potential for future development was
tremendous. Several factors made the projection of future demand
challenging, not the least of which was the fact that the plans for
the airport continually changed throughout construction. In the
construction of a new pump station, Rodney Hunt Company was awarded
the contract for one 12" and two 10" Rotovalve® Cone Valves with
hydraulic actuation, and one 24" Rotovalve® Cone Valve with an EIM
electric actuator.
